Mog & Rue Boutique offers three levels of creative courses for aspiring fashion designers.
This class teaches students everything from drawing the basic croquis to illustrating fabrics, skin tone, and notions. By the end of a session the students should be able to illustrate a composition complete with face, hair, garments and shoes. They will learn the 9 head croquis and how to drape on a dress form - same techniques as those taught at schools such as the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Students will also learn commercial patterns and how important sewing is in relation to being a "designer." They will also be given a small demo on how to sew. It makes a great prep class for any high schooler planning to apply at FIDM and a fun extra curricular class for anyone interested in fashion.
You may have always dreamed of seeing your creations on the runway. Fashion sketching class is where it all begins! You'll learn to apply basic drawing skills to the fashion figure, with an emphasis on proportion. You will design your own collection, learn about the business of fashion and learn how Designers operate in the "real world". You will learn how to drape a dress form and the basics of patternmaking. Bring your girlfriends together with other fashion enthusiasts interested in developing the techniques necessary to draw garments and figures with style and detail. This makes a fun extra curricular class for anyone interested in fashion.
Pre-requisite for this class is fashion sketching class at Mog & Rue or other institution.
You will learn to make basic patterns that can be used for your own Fashion Designs. Learn to drape a muslin bodice and skirt, on a custom dress form that you will create of your own body shape and measurements. By transferring your drape to pattern paper, you create a pattern used to sew a muslin dress for fitting purposes. Then, with the perfected patterns that you will make, many styles of clothing can be created to fit your own body.
Student must bring old unwanted cotton T-shirt - short sleeve and hip length or longer.
