Bare It All
It’s time to store those over the knee boots away until next Fall and show those fabulous legs for summer. Don’t forget to buy your stock in Nair because tunics posing as dressing, vibrant printed shorts, and the every-so-popular mini-skirt are making a comeback and you need to be ready!
While the idea of wearing something that is more than 2 inches above your knee, may be frightening, the short and mini trend doesn’t have to be intimidating. There are some great looks available from top designers that can make you look super sexy and sultry, without being too provocative. Pair any of these styles with a vibrant wedge for a night on the town, or metallic flats for a day at the beach.
Some of our favorite looks include Trina Turk’s Jimi mini-skirt and Seedling short, and Theme’s Silk Embroidered Tunic. All provide the super sexy and sultry shortness, without being too provocative. Pair them with vibrant wedges or flats for a day at the beach.

Is the LBD Dead?
For years we all griped about finding the perfect Little Black Dress. But what does that actually mean? For most when we buy a dress that is “perfect” we tend to get that one chance to make a “perfect” impression in it. Soon thereafter, we are out seeking its replacement for the next big event to surface on our calendar. God forbid we be tagged on Facebook in photos at two different events, in the same dress! How often do we actually wear that dress more than once? Is the advice to stay safe with black because “you can wear it over and over again”, no longer valid?
While there are certain occasions that will always call for the perfect LBD, what we are seeing now is that women are on the hunt for the “wow” dress….one that will turn heads when you enter a room. Something that needs to be anything but black! We can always count on Tracey Reese’s Frock line to give us the exact eye-popping garb that fits our color palette and “wow” factor criteria. Her flirty styles, vibrant hues and shiny fabrics have been a favorite at Mog & Rue since last summer and her new spring line is to die for! Plus, her price points are reasonable and don’t make you feel like you are spending an arm and leg for something you will only wear one time. Some of our Spring favorites include the “Pattie” Dress in Creme Combo and the “Vivian” Dress in Spearmint. Click here for more on these style.

J Brand – Get the Skinny
SKINNY JEANS! I must admit I was skeptical at first. The name alone sent chills up my spine. I always thought that skinny jeans were synonymous with an adolescent teeny bopper body that I’d probably find modeling in an Abercrombie & Fitch ad. In my mind they were definitely not for anyone who was past age 25. And what about the muffin top syndrome that goes hand-in-hand with those low-rise skinny’s, no way would I ever succumb to that!
Being the open-minded person that I am, I took my sister’s dare this past fall and tried on a pair of J Brand’s 912 skinny jeans. Three simple words…”I was wrong”! J Brand knows how to do skinny! The fit was perfect, lent itself to my more mature, curvier figure and it didn’t fall so low that I felt like I had to keep pulling my pants up every time I got up from sitting down. My first pair of J Brand 912 Skinny’s in High Tide, was soon followed by J Brand’s 612 Corduroys in Black, then the infamous J Brand 901 Low-rise Denim Legging in Olympia, the 9610 “The Deal” Skinny Zipper Jeans in Noir and I just added to the family with J Brand’s new 912 Skinny’s in Tyro.
Can you tell I love them? And I must admit, since my obsession began, there have been countless women who have entered the doors of Mog & Rue looking to break their denim mold. I always recommend they give the J Brand’s a try. And, 9 out of 10 woman who slip into a pair, fall in love, just as I did. They are a must!

Perfect Prints
As Spring approaches we are seeing dramatic prints pop up on every line sheet. Why the sudden need for the bold, eye-popping patterns? It’s in part due to modern technology, designers now have the ability to create patters and shades that were only dreamt about in years past.
The most important thing to remember when wearing a print…don’t over do it! If you choose a patterned dress, select neutral heels and bag. If choosing a bright floral top, pair it with jeans and strappy heels to give it the wow-factor you are looking for. In short, choose a great piece to use as your focal point and allow your accessories to complement it.
Yumi Kim, arriving for the first time to Mog & Rue this spring, provides fashion focused women with the perfect prints that allow us to look feminine, yet sophisticated. This Spring we are seeing her use of floral prints in all shades of blue, red and our favorite, hot pink. Kim Phan, a San Diego State graduate and the designer behind this ever growing line, describes her creations as “vintage prints and silhouettes, with a touch of funk and urban femininity.” Some of our favorites…
